Privacy Policy
Zawiyah is developed by WorldMind AI ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information Zawiyah collects, how it's used, and how it's stored. Zawiyah is built to minimise data collection — almost everything the app does happens entirely on your device.
No account, no sign-in
Zawiyah does not require you to create an account or sign in. There is no login, and we do not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information to use the app.
What is stored, and where
The following information is stored locally on your device only, and is never transmitted to us or to any third party:
- Your selected language and text-size preference
- Progress on devotional counters and completion status (e.g. tasbeeh, Morning and Evening A'māl)
- Custom dua/a'māl requests you type in and any private actions you add
- Which reference texts you've opened, so they stay available offline
This data lives in a local database on your device. We have no access to it, cannot see it, and cannot recover it if your device is lost — there is no cloud backup or sync in this version of the app.
Location
With your permission, Zawiyah uses your device's location to calculate accurate namaz (prayer) timings for where you are. This happens entirely on your device: your coordinates are used locally to run the calculation and, separately, to ask your phone's own built-in location service (Apple's or Google's, depending on your device) for a place name to display — Zawiyah itself never transmits your location anywhere. You can decline this permission; the app will fall back to a default calculation location instead of your real one.
The Islamic calendar feed
To align the Hijri calendar with moon-sighting announcements, Zawiyah fetches a public RSS feed published by Majlis-e-Ulema-e-Shia Europe (MUE). This is a one-way, anonymous request for public information — no data about you or your device is sent as part of it. Zawiyah is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by MUE.
Ask a Question (AI-assisted)
Zawiyah includes an "Ask a Question" feature where you can type a religious question in plain text. To answer it, the text you type is sent off your device to a Zawiyah server function, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude to generate a response — first checking Zawiyah's own bundled, vetted texts, and if needed, a small fixed list of trusted religious reference sites (named for every answer inside the app itself). No other personal data — no name, location, or device identifier — is sent as part of this, and it is never used to build a profile of you or for advertising.
To prevent abuse of this feature (for example, automated scripts running up costs), Zawiyah's server keeps a daily count of questions asked from your network address, identified only by a one-way cryptographic hash of your IP address — never the address itself. This count is used solely to cap the number of questions per day, is designed to be discarded after about two days, and is never linked to anything else Zawiyah knows about you, because Zawiyah has no account system to link it to.
Answers from this feature are never presented as a fatwa or scholarly ruling — each answer discloses, inside the app, which parts came from Zawiyah's own sources, which from a trusted reference site, and which from general AI knowledge.
No advertising, no selling data
Zawiyah contains no advertising and no advertising SDKs. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone. Anthropic processes Ask a Question text solely to generate your answer, as described above — it is not shared with any other third party, and is not used for advertising.
No analytics or tracking
Zawiyah does not include analytics or tracking software. We do not know how you use the app, how often you open it, or what content you view.
Custom dua/a'māl lookup (not yet active)
The app lets you type in a request for a dua or a'māl that isn't already in the library. In this version, that request stays on your device only — no lookup service is connected yet. When that feature is switched on in a future update, only the text you typed will be sent for lookup — no other personal data, and this policy will be updated first to describe exactly what is sent.
Children's privacy
Zawiyah is a family app intended for use by worshippers of all ages, including children alongside a parent or guardian. Zawiyah does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, has no account system to collect it through, and contains no advertising or in-app purchases.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling Zawiyah permanently deletes all locally-stored data described above. Individual counters, completed actions, and downloaded reference texts can also be reset or removed from within the app without uninstalling. See Data Deletion for details.
Future features
Any future feature that would send data off your device beyond what's already described above — such as the dua/a'māl lookup described above — will only activate with your explicit consent, and this policy will be updated first to describe exactly what is sent and why.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
